Girls on the Run is a transformational program for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. The Girls on the Run lessons encourage positive emotional, social, mental and physical development. Participants explore and discuss their own beliefs around experiences and challenges girls face at this age. They also develop important strategies and skills to help them navigate life experiences. We start with helping the girls get a better understanding of who they are and what’s important to them. Then, we look at the importance of team work and healthy relationships. And, finally, the girls explore how they can positively connect with and shape the world. The girls use running as a tool to help them explore these topics, and eventually run a 5K at the end of their season.
I became a GOTR coach in 2015 and it has been so rewarding. I get to see these young girls transform before my eyes. The girls who were shy and reserved suddenly became the ones that took charge during group discussions and encouraged others during the running activities. There is a great culture and spirit about this program.
After coaching two seasons, I am continuing on into 2016! I will be sharing my journey and stories throughout the year. If you are interested in learning more about Girls on the Run, let’s connect! Message me and I can fill you in on all the amazing things we do!
